Sprouts of Promise is a vegetable-positive 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We operate four certified farmers’ markets and run programs in and around them that: expand food access, fight food waste, and educate.

Mission

Leveraging farmers' markets as a force for building healthy communities.

History

Mark Anderson, a.k.a Farmer Mark, is the founder of Sprouts of Promise. Mark moved to California, from the midwest, to get his MBA at UCLA. He intended to return to the midwest and a career in finance when he finished his degree, but while in school, Mark a seed-breeding company. One thing led to another and Mark found himself renting a plot of land, selling his homegrown tomatoes at a farmers’ market, and thinking about food systems.

Farmers’ markets changed Mark’s body and his mind. By the time he completed his degree, Mark was convinced that the American food system is broken, and that farmers’ markets are part of the solution. He started Sprouts of Promise to work toward building healthier communities, and a healthier planet around local farms and local markets.
